If you tense the body and use muscular force, you are compartmentalizing the body, which causes it to not respond well to the forces placed upon it, the structures of the arms collapse and the stance is easily uprooted.
The remedy to this is to relax. When the body is properly relaxed, it becomes unified. This body unity allows a relaxed force to be applied anywhere in the body at any time. The body is springy and roots down into the ground.
The goal of Wing Tsun structure and footwork is to always keep you in a position of strength relative to your opponent. And because you are in a position of strength, you should not have a defensive mindset, rather an offensive mindset.
So the key to strength? Relax already!
